Doug Welsch hosts the greatest vineyard tours! We try to go every year, but space fills quickly so plan early and book your seats on the wagon. I began my love affair with Michigan wines on one of his tours.

i thought doug was on the mark with his comments, especially about attracting new wine drinkers. then i read his last comment in the interview, and knew for certain he was right :)

Thank you Judy and Larry for comments. I plan on visiting Fenn Valley this year and doing some more video for the site.

Doug is a true poineer of the MI. wine industry and makes great points here. I love hearing him educate on MI. wine with such passion and expertise. His wines are wonderful and continue, as do most all of the MI. wineries products, to get better with every vintage. Keep up all the great.. hard work Doug. Cheers, Scott.

I love Doug's comments and his wine...we carry a great deal of it on our shelves at Harding's. I find that the 21 to 30 crowd is DEEPLY impressed when I speak about our favorable position on (or near in Fenn Valley's case) the 45th parallel. Even though that demographic may be about "fun" (which 21 to 30 group throughout history has not been about that?), they still appreciate the educational process of learning the hows and whys.

Also, Shannon, Doug is one of several "southern tier" winemakers that I have heard comment on the potential success of the '09 red wines. This is in contrast to much of what I hear from the north. I would love to see you do more on this story that has really interesting implications overall or MI red wine production from year to year and from region to region. We will certainly be bringing this up at the Harding's Michigan Wine Conference on March 11th.

Thanks again,
Terry

Scott - I have had a dozen emails just like yours regarding Doug and the amount of respect he commands in the Michigan wine trade.

Thanks Terry. We did a video with the northern Michigan winemakers talking about the 2009 harvest. I will look into doing something with the southern Michigan winemakers.
