Today we introduce you to Alicia Belrose, our latest Michigan Wine Lover of the Week! This Norton Shores resident particularly adores L. Mawby wines — both for their festive bubbles and their whimsical names. Check it out.
What was the first Michigan wine you ever drank?
"I believe the first Michigan wine I was able to enjoy was cherry wine from Good Harbor. I had the wine with my family after my sister brought it home after a sampling trip and loved it."
What was the first Michigan winery you ever visited?
"I do not remember the first winery I visited, but visiting the wineries is definitely my favorite outing. I like the fruitiness and versatility of Michigan wines."
What's your favorite Michigan winery?
"My favorite winery is probably L. Mawby. I love L. Mawby because the wine is excellent and I had a lot of fun when I visited the winery with some aunts and uncles. The bubbles in the wine are fun and the names are priceless, my favorite being Sex. The sampling was a lot of fun because the sommelier had an excellent attitude."
Do you have a favorite Michigan wine trail?
"I have only been on the Leelanau and (Old Mission Peninsula) wine trails and love them both. The closeness of the wineries to each other truly adds to the adventure."
What's the most surprising Michigan wine you've tried?
"The Michigan wines are mostly all surprising, with the varying flavors of the wines, with how they are prepared."
Got any memorable Michigan wine stories?
"L. Mawby was fun to try. It is not every day that one can have Sex with their whole family."
"I want people to know how wonderful and tasty Michigan wines are and that you can find many varieties to go with almost everything, from casual to formal."
"I ALWAYS prefer Michigan wines! I like most any red wine."
