2009 was a tough year for Northern Michigan red wine. When mother nature dealt Brys Estate lemons (err.. under-ripe red fruit) they made lemonade (err.. Sparkling Wine!) Never did lemonade taste so good!
Their 2009 Brys Bubbly came at the perfect time to celebrate their 5th anniversary and to remind everyone that sparkling wine can be enjoyed every day. Cortney and I decided to pop the cork on this bottle after a grueling day at the office. Instantly our troubles melted away (that could have been the alcohol!)
This 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot blend is Demi-Sec done right. I get lots of fresh strawberries and vanilla ice cream on the nose (Refreshing!) It is sweet, for sure, but not in a syrupy sort of way. The sweetness is refreshing and does not coat your mouth with sugar like some sweet sparklers.
This would go great with fresh fruit or all by itself. Another reminder that sparkling wine should be enjoyed every day, not just on special occasions.
Cortney really enjoyed this wine also (finally, a wine we can agree on!) Here are some of her thoughts:
The first thing that strikes me is PINK, a pleasant pink color reminiscent of raspberry lemonade. A fruity, almost soapy nose. And, of course, plenty of bubbles. Sweet but not cloying, tart and fruity. Delicious, and right up my alley. I could get myself in some serious trouble with this one. I'd place it among my favorites in the sparkler realm, alongside L. Mawby's Detroit and Chateau Chantal's Celebrate.
